Is it just me, or did after this whole thing happened, their content just became “a waste of time” to watch? Don’t get me wrong, I lovedddd them!! I loved the Mystery and Ghost Files, I couldn’t wait for the next one to air! I’d even watch old Buzzfeed Unsolved True Crime and Supernatural; it was such a joy for me. Especially after a long day at grad school. I just wanted a 20-30 min laugh sesh between the two. (Fuck the other guy, I have no idea who he is and idc he’s boring). Now it just feels “cheap,” like “$6.99” a month cheap.” 🙄 It is sad. What was once a joy for me, and I’m sure for many others, has now turned sour. Welp, I guess that’s what happens when they keep wanting more, more, and more. LIKE OUR TIME WATCHING YOU GUYS WASN’T ENOUGH. Thanks for making me feel like I wasted my time, which I did 👍 (and you’re welcoming for getting you paid 🙄🖕)

This is so funny to me

The whole thing was condescending. They're not sorry, they're sorry for the backlash. Sarah's comment was a huge insight into the companies mentality. The guys made the apology sound like it was a problem with their marketing and their explanation. They "didn't explain it well" NO Ryan, We're not idiots, we understand where the money's going! We just don't understand why you even need more money because you're making bank and we don't ask for much, We feel distraught that you don't understand your audience this much, we CAN'T afford to pay that for ONE channel, And the numbers don't add up enough for us to trust it. Even Netflix is struggling and The cheapest version of netflix has ads. What exactly was the plan here after this? Sarah's comment is frustrating for the same reasons. The mentality of us being too dumb to understand and too selfish to care, is disgusting and out of touch. Most of their viewers probably DON'T make a livable wage. It's not that we don't want them to make good money. It's that some of us CAN'T help.

Thank you for this update! As a long time viewer (since buzzfeed), I appreciate knowing the reason. Everybody makes mistake, it's just people in the internet judges too hard and too strong they think they're perfect and assume they know everything that happens behind the scenes. Then don't pay the subscription. It's as easy as that. I might not be able to subscribe all the time to the new platform but there will be months that I can and will. I'm not rich but this move didn't make me that disappointed and I will not NOT WATCH you boys just because of this. Still looking forward to your content ~ cheer up!

This doesn't look like they are promoting something exciting. This sounds more like announcing all of them has cancer, it looks depressing. They look sad. Awful marketing.

I can't tell if this video is a joke

I’m tired of seeing comments of people saying “they miss the low budget buzzfeed episodes”. Y’all need to understand that things are gonna change and people who make art for a living aren’t gonna make the same art year after year. It’s such a good thing that the watcher team is as ambitious as they are. Yes the idea of pivoting to a streaming service wasn’t very good, but damn I respect the fact they they’re trying to make new higher quality content and you should too. If you really miss the old buzzfeed videos there’s dozens of hours of content for you to enjoy for free.

Okay but all of the Steven hate is literally people having parasocial relationships with Shane and Ryan and refusing to believe they can also be just as a part of the decision. I understand feedback and critique, but I felt like a lot of the hate towards Steven was just lame. Keep that energy with all 3 of them and don't use one as a scapegoat because you're obsessed with the other 2. If Shane and Ryan built it all, they wouldn't allow Steven alone to run the company into the ground and were just as much a part of the decisions.

I wonder how much the fallout of this announcement cost them. The refunds, subscriber drop etc Hope that was “Worth It”

I would gladly watch those cheesy sponsor vids if it meant supporting you guys. Heck, I watched the same videos mutliple times, and views mean ad revenue, right? After everything I'm hearing in the comments, and I'll do my fact checking, I'm not even sure if I'll be sharing links to friends anymore. This was gross and sad :(

make no mistake about it, this was a plan to squeeze as much $ from their audience as humanly possible and they tried to strong arm into it. this was greed, and the fact that shane and ryan signed off on it is absurdity. this is what you get when you have yes men and people calculating and forecasting how much money you'll reap if a "small" percentage of your active audience buys into the idea vs how much money you're pulling in from advertisers. it's flabbergasting that they didn't even soft launch the platform exclusive to their patreon before going public and instead went all-in, trial by fire. this is up there with the "react" debacle. cocaine is a helluva drug.

Torpedoed careers and diminishing interest from advertisers is because they are getting older and less relevant. Their tradjectory has plateaued. Of course they are having a hard time appealing to advertisers with the content they are proposing! They are responding by having a "fine we'll go independent then!" moment... there is no recovery to their former glory days when they were hot shit.

Yeah let's make a streaming platform amongst a shit ton of other ones good luck, but I don't believe this is a good idea.

1. Probably a nit pick to say. But I find it interesting that the lighting here is all rather doom and gloom like. Muted in a way. And yet, in the "Goodybe" UA-cam video...for sure the lighting was brighten up and lively looking. 2. Wow, this is the first time I've seen Shane look shooketh. Ghosts may not scare him, but oh for sure, the fans scares him the most. 3. I want to believe you guys and what you'll do after this mess. Cause this was so fucked up. But oh boy. I'm just going have to wait and see brah. 4. And lastly. It still sounds like you guys still don't understand why your fans watch your content. Your fans or just people in general, don't give a fuck about "high quality" or the "caliber" content TV thing when it comes to UA-cam. People don't pay attention really to "oh what a beautiful lighting, the film shot is so, color grading" and so forth. Nah. Your fans care about ya'lls PASSION of the content ya'll been doing either way. But then again, you don't seem to understand that and more so all about competing for TV thing. It's all just been disappointing and sad of the decision being made in the 1st place.
